My Identity (part 3 of 4)

When I think of the word masterpiece, I think of something that is gazed upon and nothing is like it. As I heard recently, it is original and valued by someone…Someone. The Greek word for masterpiece means poem. Lastly, I heard one person in a group of us brainstorm the word invent; meaning never before and never again.

I am His masterpiece. I am His poem. I am an original. Valued by Him. I have been invented. No one is like me before. No one is like me after.

I also thought of the job of a potter. A potter is one who works very closely with its clay to create a piece of pottery that has a specific use. Very detailed. On purpose, for a purpose. God is my Potter. I am His clay. He works closely with me…when I allow Him to…to create a masterpiece. He has created me on purpose, for a purpose.

Ephesian 2:10 says I am His masterpiece. I have been created, invented for a purpose.
Psalm 139:14 says I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Let’s break down those words: fearfully means distinguished and wonderfully means awe-inspiring. I am distinguished and He sees me as awe-inspiring!

In this chapter of Psalms, it tells us that the Creator knit me together in my mother’s womb, in the secret! There is a reason you usually don’t find out you are pregnant until six weeks…it’s in the secret! (I heard that from someone) No one knows except Him! He watched as I was formed and every day has been recorded in His book. And oh…His thoughts about me are precious and outnumber the grains of sand…out number! I have a hard time just thinking about three precious thoughts about myself, let alone out numbering the grains of sand. Why do we tend to focus on what we think are our flaws? This type of focus robs us of our identity.

So, to connect the two, I am His masterpiece who is fearfully and wonderfully made. I am His poem. He has created an original that is distinguished and awe-inspiring. He adores His masterpiece so much that His precious thoughts about me are too numerous to count.

But do I believe this? Do I receive this?
If so, then this is my identity and I can stand firm that I was made for a purpose and to not compare.
If I don’t believe this, then I will struggle and place my identity in substitutes as mentioned previously…my work, my education, my kids, my spouse, my accomplishments.

I am His poem.

I am ONE story,
~ Kristy

Isaiah 64:8 NIV (New International Version)
Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Ephesians 2:10 NLT (New Living Translation)
10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Psalm 139:13-18 NIV (New International Version)

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
